Bills select Kentucky running back Ray Davis with 128th pick in Round 4

Davis joins a running backs room that already consists of James Cook and Ty Johnson

Detroit, Mich. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Bills added to their running backs room on Saturday with the selection of University of Kentucky product Ray Davis with their first selection (128th overall) of Day 3 in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Davis started his college career with two seasons at Temple University, followed by two more seasons at Vanderbilt University before transferring to Kentucky. Over his five-year college career, Davis rushed for a combined 3,626 yards on 746 carries and 29 touchdowns. He also added 762 yards through the air on 94 receptions and 12 touchdowns.

The 24-year-old is the first player with a 1,000-or-more rushing yards at two SEC schools (Vanderbilt and Kentucky).

During his 2023 season with the Wildcats, Davis rushed for 1,129 yards on 199 carries with 14 touchdowns. He also grabbed 33 passes for 323 yards and an additional seven scores. That was good enough to earn him Second-Team All-SEC honors.

Davis will join a running backs room in Buffalo that already includes James Cook and Ty Johnson.

Here is what NFL analyst Lance Zierlein had to say about Davis during his pre-draft evaluations:

"Three-down back with adequate blend of toughness between the tackles and production out of the backfield. Davis can be a tad indecisive at times but did a much better job of toggling between urgent and patient in his lone season at Kentucky. The vision is fairly average, and he's not going to scare NFL defenses with his speed, but he does alter his pacing to create openings, and he'll finish with some thud behind his pads. Ultimately, he'll need to step up his pass protection to be trusted as a third-down option. Davis' compact frame, toughness and ability to catch the football could make him a middle-round option as a three-down backup with the ability to play a larger role in time."

The Bills' next selection will be with the 141st overall pick in the fifth round.
