Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Bills have added a piece to the safeties group that could contend to start opposite Taylor Rapp come kickoff for the 2024 season.
The Bills announced the signing of veteran safety Mike Edwards on Wednesday to a one-year deal.
Edwards joins the Bills after spending the 2023 season as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. The 27-year-old played in all 17 games, starting five of them with 51 total tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, two fumble recoveries and a touchdown.
In the playoffs, Edwards started all four games for the Chiefs, registering 12 total tackles and picking off one pass in the AFC Wild Card Round against the Miami Dolphins.
Edwards started his career in Tampa Bay after being a third-round pick (99th overall) of the Buccaneers in the 2019 NFL Draft out of the University of Kentucky.
In his first four seasons, Edwards collected 184 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, two sacks, seven interceptions, three fumble recoveries and three touchdowns. He also won a Super Bowl ring on the Tom Brady-led Buccaneers during his 2020 campaign.
Since the 2021 season, Edwards is tied for the second-most defensive touchdowns in the NFL with four.
