Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR) - The Buffalo Bills will be a bit festive this Christmas, as the team announced Tuesday it will wear the popular '90s era red helmets for their road matchup with the Denver Broncos on Christmas Day.
This will be the second time in as many years the Bills will wear their red helmets. Buffalo also donned the helmet for the final regular season game at the old Highmark Stadium this past campaign against the New York Jets.
The Bills went on to dominate that game in the send-off for the old stadium, 35-8.
The helmets were a staple of Bills football from 1987 through the 2001 season. In that span, the Bills won six division titles and four AFC Championships.
This will be the only time the Bills will have any uniform variation on the road this season.
Meanwhile, the Bills will wear their blue primary home jerseys for half the games at the new Highmark Stadium this season. The team will wear its "Nickel City" uniforms for two contests this season - Week 3 vs. Los Angeles Chargers and Week 15 vs. Chicago Bears - while the Bills will also wear their "Rivalries" uniform featured last season - Week 11 vs. Miami Dolphins - and their red alternate jersey in the Week 18 finale against the Jets.
Kickoff on Christmas Day between the Bills and Broncos Empower Field at Mile High is set for 4:30 p.m.
