Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - It's an end of an era for the Buffalo Bills and Highmark Stadium, as the Bills defeated the Jets 35-8 in their final matchup of the regular season and what is most likely their final matchup at Highmark Stadium.
The Bills received the opening kickoff and Josh Allen took his one snap to keep his start streak alive. James Cook also was able to pad his rushing stats to keep his spot as the leading rusher in the NFL. Mitch Trubisky took over for Allen and was able to find Dawson Knox in the end zone for a 17 yard touchdown.
The Jets offense was dysfunctional even against the backups for the Bills, unable to get anything going. The Bills offense sputtered a little bit before making a scoring push in the second quarter. Ty Johnson got the Bills on the board with a six yard run into the end zone to take a two-score lead.
Brady Cook and the Jets were held to fourth down on their ensuing drive but were unable to convert. The Bills capitalized on the ensuing drive with a touchdown from Ray Davis off of a two yard reception from Trubisky.
The third quarter continued to be more of the same as the Jets completely fell apart on offense and the Bills capitalized once again. Gabe Davis got his share on the next score for Buffalo as he Moss'd the Jets defender to extend the lead further for a two yard touchdown.
A wrinkle in the game plan occurred as Matt Prater exited the game after aggravating his right quad injury. The Bills elected to stay on the field and went for the two-point-conversion. Trubisky found Coleman at the boundary for a successful attempt, extending the lead further.
After anothe stop against New York and the Bills getting the ball once again, the Jets were able to get a stop as the Bills stalled out in the red zone trying to get Ty Johnson into the end zone for his $250,000 touchdown incentive. The excitement for the Jets was short lived as they soon would be punting back to the Bills.
You know what they say, if at first you don't succeed, try, try, again. The Bills ran all over the Jets as Ray Davis popped a big run early. As they marched into the red zone, Mitch Trubisky found Johnson on a six-yard pass to the right for the touchdown. This score did cash in his incentive.
Buffalo attempted another two-point conversion being down Prater but was unsuccessful. The score was 35-0.
The Jets finally scored a touchdown as time was ticking away in the fourth quarter. Cook found Andrew Beck for two yards in the end zone. They also were able to score on the two-point attempt to bring their total to eight points.
The Bills would allow time to expire on their next possession, securing victory in dominant fashion over the New York Jets. They also bring down the house as there will more than likely be no more games in the current Highmark Stadium.
