Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Bills drop their first game of the season at the hands of the New England Patriots on Sunday, pulling the Patriots back into the division race in the AFC East.
It was certainly not pretty for the Buffalo Bills on either side of the ball as they lost for the first time this season—a loss that feels like extra salt rubbed into the wound by a division rival. The offense turned the ball over late in a crucial situation and the defense just could not get off the field when a big stop was warranted.
Bills head coach Joe Brady says that the Patriots had a plan to take advantage of whatever the Bills threw at them on offense and defense, forcing the Bills to make self-inflicted mistakes that would defeat them in the end.
"We just didn't get in a rhythm today. We had a couple drives, had some three and outs, and that can't happen. Starting with the first drive of the game, and the sudden change, three and out after we get the turnover. We had opportunities to be able to sustain drives and some looks that we know are coming and we weren't executing. We have to look and see why."
Brady emphasized the importance of ball security and how turnovers were fatal for the Bills chances at winning Sunday's game.
"If we protect the football, we win the game, it's not very hard, right? And we had two in two-minute drill situations... But we got to clean it up, or it's going to continue to show up."
When asked about losing his first game as a head coach in the NFL, Brady was very level-headed in his response, but showed some emotion after a tough defeat.
"The wins and losses are all the same to me. I don't mean that in a negative way. When we win, I still have the same mindset of like we're putting a lot of stuff on tape that's going to cause us to lose, and we got to continue to play better, but the last three times we've left the stadium, I've left pissed off. So, the wins and losses is never what it's about. It's about playing clean winning football and giving ourselves a chance to win."
