Orchard Park, NY (WGR) - The Buffalo Bills will like to start the season 3-0 by collecting a win over the Los Angeles Chargers at Highmark Stadium on Sunday. Here are my three keys to the game, plus notes and stats.
KEYS
- Tighten up on the back end
The Bills secondary has been too loose through the first two games. They’ll need to be better against the Chargers and quarterback Justin Herbert, who will look to throw the ball to wide receiver Ladd McConkey and tight end Orande Gadsden. Los Angeles may also feel they need to outscore the Bills offense so they’ll have to attack through the air. Bills defensive backs have to be sticker and make more plays on the football.
- Dominate up front
The Chargers are down a couple of offensive linemen, on top of already having struggles upfront. The Bills should have defensive tackle Ed Oliver back, and Deone Walker is playing phenomenal football. Those two need to not only cause disruption but make plays in the backfield and get pressure on Herbert, forcing him into quicker throws or even sacks.
- Keep attacking in the passing game
The Bills lead the league in points scored. Josh Allen is playing at an MVP level. He’s been spreading the ball around to plenty of different weapons. That needs to continue against a Chargers defense that not only is dealing with injuries, but through two weeks ranks 28th in the league in passing yards per game given up and 26th in passing yards per play allowed.
