C.J. Stroud vs. Josh Allen: Start of a billable quarterback matchup?

Allen and Stroud are off to hot starts to the 2024 season

Houston, Texas (SportsRadio 610/WGR Sports Radio 550) - This Sunday will be the first time Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud will square off against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills since he was drafted second overall in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Allen is no stranger to many around the NFL, having developed and playing as one of the best dual threat quarterbacks in the league. In his seven-plus seasons with the Bills, Allen has averaged more than 4,000 yards passing and 30 touchdowns a season, while also rushing for an average of 645 yards and 10 touchdowns.

While Allen is not among the league leaders in a number of categories through the first four games of the 2024 season, the 28-year-old helped lead the Bills to a 3-1 start, accounting for 814 yards in the air, seven passing touchdowns and two more touchdowns on the ground.

His performance has not only put him the the early conversations for NFL MVP, but it also earned him the honor of AFC Offensive Player of the Month for the month of September.

As for Stroud, he is quickly developing into one of the top young quarterbacks, and the future of the league at the position.

In his rookie 2023 season, Stroud helped lead the Texans to a 10-7 record and an AFC South title. He also got the Texans to the AFC Divisional Round of the playoffs after beating the Cleveland Browns in the AFC Wild Card Round.

In 15 games during his rookie campaign, Stroud completed 63.9% of his pass attempts for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns and just five interceptions. That was good enough to earn the Ohio State University product league honors as the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year.

So far this season, Stroud has accounted for 1,054 yards through the air, six touchdowns and two interceptions, while completing 67.6% of his passes as Houston is also off to a 3-1 start.

This Week 5 matchup at NRG Stadium between Allen and Stroud certainly makes it one of the more intriguing games across the NFL.
