The Buffalo Bills have only retired three numbers in the history of the franchise, honoring three of the key pieces to the success of the 1990s teams that appeared in four-straight Super Bowls. Kelly was the first player to have his No. 12 retired by the franchise in 2001, followed by Smith's No. 78 in 2016, and then Thomas' No. 34 in 2018.

All three former Bills players are also members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

But could the fourth Hall of Fame player of that era of Bills football soon join his teammates with their number immortalized by the franchise?

During his annual celebrity golf tournament in Batavia on Monday, Kelly alluded to the possibility of seeing Reed's No. 83 soon being retired by the franchise, and being added to the rafters of the new Highmark Stadium.

"It will," said Kelly when asked about Reed's number possibly being retired. "From what I've already heard, they're working on hopefully next year to get it up sooner rather than later."

Reed spent all but one of his 16 years in the NFL with the Bills (1985-99), where he finished as the team's all-time leading receiver in receptions (941), receiving yards (13,095) and receiving touchdowns (86). In the playoffs, Reed accumulated 85 career receptions for 1,229 yards and nine touchdowns in 21 games.

The product of Kutztown University was a fourth-round pick (86th overall) of the Bills in the 1985 NFL Draft. He was named to the Bills' Wall of Fame back in 2006.

Reed was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014.
