Gabriel Davis' nickname section on Pro Football Reference is currently empty, but after his performance on Wild Card Weekend against the Indianapolis Colts, he might have a new one courtesy of some great catches and the reaction of CBS broadcaster Ian Eagle.
It was late in the first half when Davis made his first impressive catch, which came without a subsequent moniker, but it did provoke a replay review. The call on the field was a catch, and had it been initially called incomplete, it may have stayed that way. However, it was just too close to call.
After the lengthy review and the subsequent ruling that it was, indeed, a catch, Davis was back for more in no time. Just two plays later, "Mr. Perimeter" was born.
At the end of the first half, Davis led all Bills with 72 yards on three catches, aiding Josh Allen to a strong start. In the end, Davis finished the game with four receptions for 85 yards.
That final offensive drive of the second quarter was big for Buffalo as it contributed to the team's 27-24 win over the Colts, the team's first playoff win since the 1995 season.
The rookie fourth round pick out of UCF largely exceeded expectations this season, finishing with 599 yards and seven touchdowns. He was one of only three rookie receivers in this highly-touted draft class, joining Justin Jefferson and Chase Claypool, to finish the season with 500 yards and seven scores.
The regular season was a good start for Davis, and if the first half of his postseason career is any indication, he could further impress the Buffalo fan base.
