Jalen Ramsey is in Tre’Davious White’s corner.
In a recent interview, Ramsey was asked by the hosts to name the best-five cornerbacks in the NFL right now. Naturally, Ramsey put himself at the top of the list, but listed four other names: Stephon Gilmore, Xavien Howard, Jaire Alexander of the Green Bay Packers, and White.
Ramsey also said he would “like to team up with” White if given the chance, along with the other star corners he mentioned.
The fact that Ramsey put White on his list of top cornerbacks shows how much respect the 2017 first round pick is rightfully receiving around the game. Sean McDermott’s first draft pick with the Bills played an outsized role in getting the Bills back to respectability, and is now, arguably, the most important member of a Super Bowl-caliber defense.
He’s been named to the Pro Bowl and recognized as an All-Pro in the past two seasons.
Just last year, Ramsey suggested White would maybe have to leave Buffalo to reach true superstardom, but clearly, he’s changed his mind.
With a fresh four-year extension, White is signed with the Bills through 2025, and didn’t have to leave Buffalo to get his money. He’s the third-highest paid corner in the NFL, with an average annual salary of $17.25 million.
We often think of the decision to draft Josh Allen as the moment Buffalo’s fortunes changed, but the turnaround really started with White. If Allen is the face of the Bills, then White is the heart and soul.
No wonder why Ramsey would be down to wind up here.
