James Cook named AFC Offensive Player of the Week

This is the second time Cook has earned the honor in his career

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - For the second-straight week to open the 2024 season, a member of the Buffalo Bills has been named an AFC Player of the Week. Last week, it was defensive end Greg Rousseau for his Week 1 performance against the Arizona Cardinals.

This week, it's running back James Cook after his Week 2 performance on "Thursday Night Football" against the Miami Dolphins in South Florida.

The 24-year-old earns AFC Offensive Player of the Week after accounting for three touchdowns in Buffalo's 31-10 win over the Dolphins. The first touchdown came via a pass from quarterback Josh Allen, while the other two came on the ground, including a 49-yard score to give the Bills a 24-10 lead in the second quarter.

Cook became the first Bills running back to have two rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown in the same game since Hall-of-Famer Thurman Thomas in 1992.

The Bills running back also led the game Thursday night with 78 rushing yards on 11 carries, and accounted for 85 all-purpose yards. Cook tied the franchise record for the most touchdowns in a first half.

This marks the second time in Cook's career where he has received AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors. The last honor came during his 2023 season in a Week 15 win over the Dallas Cowboys in Orchard Park.
