New York (WFAN/WGR Sports Radio 550) - The New York Jets have found their next head coach.
As first reported by ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Jets have named Aaron Glenn as the 22nd head coach in franchise history.
Glenn was scheduled to interview for the head coaching vacancy with the New Orleans Saints as well, but ends up returning to the organization that drafted him in the first round 30 years ago.
The 52-year-old was requested to interview with all but one team that had a head coaching vacancy at the start of the playoffs, but seemed to covet the Jets job, as he played in New York for eight seasons between 1994 and 2001.
Glenn also served as a personnel scout with the Jets for a pair of seasons before becoming an assistant defensive backs coach with the Cleveland Browns in 2014.
For the last four seasons, Glenn served as the defensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions under the leadership of Dan Campbell as head coach.
This past season, the Lions defense remained a top-10 unit throughout the season, despite an unprecedented wave of injuries. Glenn played a huge role in helping Detroit to the top seed in the NFC, but his shorthanded defense was picked apart by Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders in the NFC Divisional Round.
Glenn is the latest defensive coordinator with no previous head coaching experience to take the job in New York. Robert Saleh was in the same boat back when he was hired as head coach in 2021.
