Chicago, Ill. (WGR 550) - It was a decent showing from the Buffalo Bills in their 2023 preseason finale on Saturday with a 24-21 win over the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field. Now up next for Buffalo is looking ahead to the regular season, and a Week 1 showdown with the New York Jets on Sept. 11.
LISTEN LIVE TO WGR:
Following a rough outing against the Pittsburgh Steelers last Saturday, Bills quarterback Josh Allen and the starters got another chance to prove they are ready for the start of the season, and showed well in their one drive of the game. Allen ended up going 5-of-7 for 49 yards in the air, and helped get Buffalo in position for a touchdown run from running back Damien Harris.
While most of the starters just played in the opening drive, Allen was still very impressed with how his teammates competed in this game compared to their last contest.
"I think just in terms of energy and juice in this game, compared to last game, guys were ready to go," said Allen following Saturday's win in Chicago. "You can notice the difference. But it starts off with our defense getting a three-and-out, us on third-and-short, the first third down we get, we convert. I think those are two of the most important plays of the game."
With this being the final preseason game for the Bills, Allen and the starters wanted to use this as a positive springboard heading into the regular season.
"As we ramp up going into the season, making sure that we're getting that feeling and understanding that on game day, we've gotta be ready to go," Allen said. "We weren't really sure how long we were gonna play today, so we were expecting to play quite a bit. I think guys having that mindset of 'We're here, let's get some work done,' I think that was important for us."
