Josh Allen named AFC Offensive Player of the Week

This marks the 16th time in Allen's career he's earned AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors

Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - A new season is officially underway in the NFL, and already the reigning league MVP is earning honors.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen has been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week after Buffalo's thrilling comeback win over the Baltimore Ravens on "Sunday Night Football."

This marks the 16th time that Allen has received the honor over his career, extending an already franchise record.

In the opening game of the season this past Sunday, Allen ended up being a catalyst for the Bills' come-from-behind efforts, especially in the fourth quarter, where he accounted for 251 yards in the air, a passing touchdown and a pair of rushing scores.

Down 40-25 with less than four minutes remaining in the game, Allen managed to lead the Bills to 16 points, helping Buffalo to become the first team in NFL history to overcome a 15-plus-point deficit with less than four minutes left and win the game in regulation.

Overall, Allen went 34-of-46 through the air for 394 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 30 yards on the ground and two rushing touchdowns to account for 424 of Buffalo's 497 total net yards.

Allen recorded his third-career game with 350 or more passing yards and two-plus passing and rushing touchdowns, which is the most of any quarterback in NFL history.

He also broke a franchise record for rushing touchdowns (65) on Sunday night, passing Hall-of-Famer Thurman Thomas for that mark in Bills history.

With another AFC Offensive Player of the Week honor for Allen, he holds the most of any player since he entered the NFL in 2018. During his MVP season in 2024, Allen was honored as the AFC Offensive Player of the Week four times.
