Josh Allen didn’t just look “seductive” while dressed as Phil Mickelson on Halloween this past Sunday. The Bills’ star quarterback also channeled the champion golfer’s energy on his way to a game-winning second half performance over the Miami Dolphins.
Following Buffalo’s 26-11 win against the Dolphins in Orchard Park, Allen said he focused on some words of advice from Mickelson, who spoke to the Bills via Zoom during training camp.
“He had a chance to talk to us early on this year,” Allen told reporters during his postgame press conference. “He talked about finding kinda like your zen, finding where you’re calm and I’ve known this for a long time, I don’t play well when I’m pissed off and frustrated. I think that was maybe causing some issues early on… to that second half just trying to find that inner-peace where I can just kinda go out there and relax and that’s what we did and we did well.”
After throwing for just 80 yards in the first half of Sunday's game, Allen looked like himself in the final two quarters, finding Gabriel Davis and Stefon Diggs for touchdown strikes. Allen’s pass to Davis was of the no-look variety.
He also ran for a touchdown to cap things off in the fourth quarter.
Thanks to Mickelson’s influence, Allen looked dominant on the field, and perfectly in the Halloween spirit off of it. As the oldest PGA champion, Mickelson knows the importance of resilience.
Allen showed some of that resilience on Sunday. The Bills came up with the win, continuing their march towards a coveted first round bye in the AFC Playoffs.
