Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen will start on Sunday when the team visits the New England Patriots for their regular season finale, head coach Sean McDermott told reporters on Monday.
The Bills are locked into the AFC's No. 2 seed. That can't change regardless of the result on Sunday. That should allow the Bills to rest some starters for the game, and allow them an extra week of rest before playing on Super Wild Card Weekend.
"You'll see some starters out there playing, and you'll see some other players we want to get a look at," said McDermott during his weekly Zoom call. "You'll see a blend of both."
Allen has started 114-consecutive games for the Bills, including postseason contests, which is the longest current streak for any active quarterback in the NFL.
"Playing football and playing next to his teammates is very important to him," McDermott said about Allen. "You see how he competes, so you connect the dots as to why this type of streak is important to him. And his teammates feel the same way about him."
McDermott says Allen will only play for a very short time.
Meanwhile, the rest of the team came out of Sunday's 40-14 win over the New York Jets "pretty good" health-wise, according to McDermott.
McDermott says safety Damar Hamlin and wide receiver Curtis Samuel are two players who have been out with injuries that may be back on the field Sunday in order to get game reps back in before the playoffs begin.
The Bills play the Patriots at 1 p.m. EST on Sunday at Gillette Stadium.
New England has already been eliminated from playoff contention, and would clinch the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft with a loss to Buffalo on Sunday.
