Beane always looking into available players Bills could add during offseason

Bills general manager and president of football operations Brandon Beane joined the "Jeremy and Joe Show" on Thursday

Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Bills are diving into the brand-new Joe Brady era as he has nearly completed his coaching staff. The Super Bowl is nearly here and shortly after that the offseason will be in full swing for every team around the NFL.

This is a big offseason for general manager Brandon Beane, who is now the president of football operations as well, as it is the first time he has been able to select a coach to run the show.

Over the last couple of years, Jeremy White and Joe DiBiase have helped conduct the "wide receiver train," pushing for the team to select some talent at wideout, particularly near the top of the class. The closest has been Keon Coleman with the first pick of the second round. This led to a spirited Brandon Beane pushing back following last year's NFL draft where the team did not draft a wide receiver, not understanding the criticism.

A season has passed, the Bills struggled at the receiver position with injuries, a young Coleman missed meetings and was benched, and it was a carousel to the point where Gabe Davis was playing meaningful snaps for the team once again. Beane joked with Jeremy White when asked if there is a need to upgrade the position this offseason, before getting to his true answer.

"I mean, I think we're going to take every draft pick this year and make them all receiver." Beane said to White. "I promise you, if I could get three number one receivers in here, I would do it. I'm always trying to find the best player. No one's going to run from that. We had the opportunities we talked about at the deadline, we were just looking for good players. I know receiver came up because of the sensitivity of where that talk was surrounded. But obviously, we were chasing a couple of defensive linemen through the deadline as well. Any way that we can help this roster, whether that's bolstering the defense to get the ball back to Josh [Allen] and crew, whether that's affecting the quarterback, we're going to do it."

With the big game just a few days away, media row is beginning to stir with reports of players wanting trades and out of their current situation. One of those being from NFL on Fox's Jay Glazer, who has reported Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby wants out of Vegas. Beane says that he will always look into things like this.

"You can assume, without tampering, that when certain names in our league become available. I'm going to look into it, if nothing else, just to kind of know if it's real or if it's not, and is it even something reasonable or not? And a lot of times that's what it is like I said, for every deal, there's probably 150 calls that don't turn into something. I just think that's the right way to approach this business, is do your due diligence. You never want to be sitting on the sidelines and not have ever made the call right?"

Speaking of the Super Bowl, the AFC representative being the Patriots surprised many. Especially after their four win season last year. Beane spoke on the addition of Mike Vrabel and how he turned their franchise around faster than anyone thought. The Bills coaching change does not guarantee success though.

"This doesn't guarantee anything. We've got a we've got to make sure we're prepared, and we build this thing to compete with New England, with the Jets, with Miami, to try and win the division. Then also know the other teams in the AFC that are generally here, that you're going to have to get through. So we've got to make sure we build a team that, yes, competes with New England, and see if we can wrestle the division back away from them. That would be goal number one. But also make sure if we can get in the tournament, that we can match up and compete with the other contenders."
