Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - Revenge is a dish best served sweet.
It was another complete effort from the Buffalo Bills this past Sunday, as they managed to take care of business against the Kansas City Chiefs in a 28-21 win at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park. This after Buffalo ended up on the losing end of the 2024 AFC Championship Game against the Chiefs back in January.
It was also Buffalo's fifth-straight win over Kansas City in the regular season, dating back to the 2021 season.
The Bills got an efficient day under center from the reigning NFL MVP Josh Allen, who completed a franchise record 88.5% of his pass attempts (23-of-26) for 273 yards and a touchdown. He also accounted for another pair of touchdowns on the ground and 19 yards on six carries.
As for the Buffalo defense, the unit was very effective in the pass rush, getting to Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes all afternoon. They managed to sack Mahomes three times, which accounting for 15 quarterback hurries as they pressured the Chiefs offense quite consistently.
When all was said and done, Mahomes was held to the lowest completion percentage of his career (44.1%) and accounting for just 250 yards and an interception.
With the victory, the Bills managed to maintain the pace in the AFC, especially in the division behind the New England Patriots. Buffalo currently sits at 6-2, only a half-game behind the Patriots at 7-2 in the AFC East.
The next test for the Bills will be a trip to South Florida to face the struggling Miami Dolphins for the second time this season.
Back in Week 3, the Bills hosted the Dolphins on "Thursday Night Football" at Highmark Stadium, where it was a bit of a closer affair than many had originally thought. In the end, though, the Bills managed to pull away in the end, securing a 31-21 win over the Dolphins to improve to 3-0.
With the loss, the Dolphins fell to 0-3 in the standings, resulting in a further spiraling toward the bottom of the AFC.
This past Thursday night saw the Dolphins come up empty handed offensively, struggling to move the ball up-and-down the field with consistency in a 28-6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
In the hours that followed the loss, the Dolphins announced the organization had mutually parted ways with Chris Grier, who had served as the general manager since 2016. And while head coach Mike McDaniel remains as the head coach in Miami, his future with the team seems to be very much in doubt.
After the huge win over the Chiefs and with the Bills set to take on the 2-6 Dolphins, does Howard Simon see Buffalo back on a track to sit atop the AFC standings? It's quite possible.
In the latest edition of "Howard Picks the Bills", Howard foresees the Bills coming away with a win over the Dolphins, before falling in a matchup the following week against Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
However, Howard then picks the Bills to go on a run of five-straight wins, including a key Week 15 win over the Patriots on the road in Foxboro that could help them earn back the top spot in the AFC East.
Their string of wins for Howard ends in a Week 17 matchup with the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, but then a win in the regular season finale over the New York Jets has Buffalo finishing the 2025 season with a 13-4 record.
