Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Bills went toe-to-toe with, arguably, the NFL's best team on Sunday in Philadelphia against the Eagles, and nearly came away with a victory. However, the Bills ended up losing, once again, in overtime, 37-34, to fall to 6-6 on the season heading into their Week 13 bye.
The Bills picked up right where they left off against the New York Jets in Week 11 with the offense remaining potent and fast-paced. Bills quarterback Josh Allen recorded over 300 passing yards for the first time since since Week 8, and the offense also put up more than 500 yards of total offense. In addition, Buffalo put up 30-plus points in consecutive weeks for the first time since Week 4.
Meanwhile, the Buffalo defense was rolling for a large majority of the game. They held one of the most potent offenses in the league to 385 total yards, and forced a couple of turnovers in the first half of action.
However, with little time remaining in the game, Eagles kicker Jake Elliott nailed a 59-yard field goal to tie the game at 31-31 and force overtime.
In the extra time, the Bills won the coin toss and marched down the field, but were stopped short and settled for a field goal. That gave the Eagles a chance to score a touchdown and steal a victory from Buffalo's hands.
After a big third down conversion from Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith, quarterback Jalen Hurts was able to break off a 12-yard run for the win two plays later.
The rest of the Bills schedule still remains difficult. After their upcoming bye week, they will ready themselves to head to Kansas City to take on their AFC rival Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.
The Chiefs won big in Week 12 in comeback fashion against the Las Vegas Raiders. With the Raiders up 14-0, the Chiefs' offense came to life, scoring twice in the second quarter before halftime. They didn't take their foot off the gas in the second half, cruising to a 31-17 victory.
In Week 13, the Chiefs will take on the Green Bay Packers, looking to win their second game in-a-row and their ninth game of the year.
Howard Simon had mixed feeling about this Bills loss to the Eagles on Sunday. While he acknowledged the improvement of the offense, he also recognizes the near impossible path the Bills need to follow to make the playoffs this season.
Last week, Howard had picked the Bills to finish 10-7, which could result in Buffalo still clinching a playoff berth in the AFC. However, this week was slightly different.
Howard picked the Bills to finish the year 9-8 with crucial wins over the Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers and New England Patriots. However he does not believe Buffalo will pull off victories over the Dallas Cowboys or Miami Dolphins.
