OPINION: Howard Picks the Bills: Week 18

How deflating was Sunday's loss to the Eagles for Howard Simon?

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - Sunday's 13-12 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles stung the Buffalo Bills in more than one way. First, it was a loss for the Bills in the second-to-last home game at Highmark Stadium this season, but more importantly, it cost Buffalo the AFC East, which has been officially won by the New England Patriots.

Buffalo's offense was stagnant for nearly 55 minutes of play, unable to score and faltering on a number of drives into the fourth quarter. Despite scoring a pair of touchdowns in the last five minutes, a blocked extra point followed by a failed two-point conversion attempt was the Bills' downfall.

One bright spot for the Bills in a losing effort was the defense all but shutting down the Eagles in the second half, limiting Philadelphia to just 16 offensive yards on five total possessions.

It is now more than likely that Sunday's regular season finale game against the New York Jets will be the final game played at Highmark Stadium, pending any drastic changes to the playoff picture.

Looking at the Jets, it has been, yet, another disastrous season in East Rutherford, with the team staring down the barrel of a 3-13 record and a 15th-straight season of postseasonless football.

The Jets have not been very good on either side of the football this season under first-year head coach Aaron Glenn, sitting in the bottom-five of scoring both offensively (18.3 points per-game) and defensively (29.3 points per-game). The offense has had problems finding ways to score all year long, while the defense has not found answers to stopping the opposition or forcing turnovers.

Last week, Howard Simon felt confident in the Bills' chances this postseason to make a run, even after a less than impressive victory over the Cleveland Browns.

While Howard still picks the Bills to finish the 2025 season and cap off the history of the current Highmark Stadium with a win over the Jets, his run for the Bills in the playoffs is more short-lived than it was last week.

In the AFC Wild Card Round, Howard has the Bills heading on the road to Jacksonville to take on the AFC South champion Jaguars, where he has Buffalo handling them in a "revenge game" from the first playoff appearance for head coach Sean McDermott in 2017.

But then it all comes crashing down for the Bills in the AFC Divisional Round, where Howard has Buffalo falling to the Denver Broncos in the "Mile High City". Howard believes the high-powered Denver defense could be too much for a Bills team that has struggled against elite defenses this season.
