Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Bills had a big bounce back win on Sunday in their Week 2 win over the Las Vegas Raiders at Highmark Stadium.
The home opener didn't start out great for the Bills, as they came out flat on both sides of the football. The Raiders were able to quickly score on their opening drive, while the offense sputtered with a three-and-out.
Following those drives, though, the Bills re-grouped and came alive to suffocate the Raiders in a 38-10 victory. The defense was humming with three turnovers and stifling a potent Raiders running game, while the offense was greatly improved from Week 1 with quarterback Josh Allen throwing for three touchdowns and 274 yards.
With the win, the Bills now sit at 1-1 overall and appear to be back on track. However, their Week 3 matchup may not be as easy as once thought before the season started.
Up next for the Bills will be a road matchup outside the nation's capital when they take on the Washington Commanders at FedEx Field.
The Commanders are out to a 2-0 start to the year with wins over the Arizona Cardinals and Denver Broncos. While the Cardinals and Broncos may be seen, to many, as weaker matchups to start the season, Washington still managed to battle hard and punch through with a victory.
The last time these two teams met in the regular season was in 2021, when the Bills hosted the Commanders in Orchard Park and trounced them in a Week 3 contest, 43-21.
After a big first win of the 2023 season, Howard Simon is feeling a bit more confident about the Bills than he was feeling the week prior. However, some things have changed when it comes to specific matchups.
Starting this upcoming Sunday, Howard is riding the Bills' wagon to another victory over the Commanders, even with Washington riding the momentum of two wins to start the season and playing at home.
As for the rest of the season, Howard still expects the Bills to finish the year 12-5, but his losses do not fall in Buffalo's favor when all is said and done. Not only does Howard have the Bills losing to the New York Jets again in their Week 11 matchup, he also has Buffalo falling to the Miami Dolphins in the Week 18 finale in South Florida.
Despite that, it should still all be enough to earn the Bills a postseason berth for a fifth-straight season.
