OPINION: Howard Picks the Bills: Week 5

The luster has faded a bit with the Bills after their first loss of the season in Baltimore on Sunday

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - Well that certainly didn't pan out the way many thought it would.

The Buffalo Bills suffered their first loss of the 2024 season this past Sunday night in a throttling at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens, 35-10. It was the first time since the 2021 regular season that the Bills lost by more than 10 points.

The Bills defense was exposed by running back Derrick Henry, who broke free for 199 yards on the ground, with 87 of those yards coming on one big play early in the first quarter for a touchdown.

The offensive side of the football was not much better on Sunday, only putting up 10 points after having scored 47 points the week prior against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Bills quarterback Josh Allen faced the most pressure in the pocket so far this season, as he was sacked three times, while only completing 16-of-29 pass attempts for 180 yards.

Allen also did not record a passing or rushing touchdown for the first time since a 9-6 loss to Jacksonville in 2022.

Up next for the Bills is, yet, another big challenge on the road when they take on former wideout Stefon Diggs and the Housten Texas on Sunday afternoon at NRG Stadium.

Led by second-year quarterback C.J. Stroud, the Texans were able to bounce back from a loss the week before to defeat their AFC South rival Jaguars this past Sunday. Houston was behind most of the game before Stroud threw the game-winning touchdown with 18 seconds left in a 24-20 win.

If there is any good news for the Bills heading into their Week 5 matchup with Houston, there is a possibility that linebacker Terrel Bernard will play after injuring his pectoral muscle back in a Week 2 win over the Miami Dolphins.

Despite the huge loss to Baltimore this past weekend, it hasn't dampened the spirits of Howard Simon going into Week 5.

While Howard does not see Buffalo pulling off a victory on the road against the Texans on Sunday, he still sees Buffalo bouncing back to win five of the next six games heading into the bye week.

Howard has kept true to the Bills losing their first game coming out of the bye week against the San Francisco 49ers, followed by a loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 15.

However, Howard does pick the Bills to sweep the AFC East, helping Buffalo to a 12-5 record and likely a fifth-straight division title!
