Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Bills are getting ready for a rematch of their Week 1 showdown with the New York Jets this Sunday afternoon at Highmark Stadium, but will be doing so with new leadership on the offensive side of the ball.
Earlier this week, the Bills fired offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey after a tumultuous stretch of games running the offense. In his place, the team has elevated quarterbacks coach Joe Brady to be the new offensive coordinator on an interim basis.
Bills head coach Sean McDermott has been very impressed by Brady, as he says the 34-year-old didn’t hesitate what so ever at the opportunity.
"We discussed things on Tuesday morning, and he took the ball and ran with it, and has done that ever since," said McDermott on Friday during his weekly appearance on WGR. "His leadership has been very evident over the last three days here."
One of the main glaring issues for the Bills offense has been turnovers, specifically by quarterback Josh Allen. The veteran leads the league in interceptions thrown this season, while also throwing, at least, one interception in each of his last six games, and seven of his last eight games.
"Josh has so many strengths, but some of his challenges are when he doesn’t take what the defense gives him and gets a little bit greedy," McDermott said with Sal Capaccio and Joe DiBiase. "When you put the ball into trouble, bad things happen. Those are things we are working on, and he needs to continue to work on, as well with his game."
It is not just Allen contributing to the offensive woes, though, as the team currently has a minus-3 turnover differential so far through the 2023 season.
"More than anything, it’s the turnovers that are a concern," McDermott said. "That can tend to affect mentality and confidence, so that is probably the No. 1 thing, more than anything else we have to fix offensively."
The Bills and Jets are slated to kick off this Sunday at 4:25 p.m. EST and can be heard on WGR Sports Radio 550.
