McDermott: Bills defense was 'big time difference' in Sunday's win over Colts

Bills head coach Sean McDermott addressed the media following his team's 30-20 victory in Indianapolis

Indianapolis, Ind. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - For the first time since 1993, the Buffalo Bills are 8-2 to start a season following a 30-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium.

While Sunday's win was not a perfect performance, it was the defense helping carry the day for the Bills with four turnovers of the Colts. This included three interceptions of quarterback Joe Flacco (one returned for a touchdown) and another strip-sack fumble recovered by Buffalo.

Offensively, it certainly was not Josh Allen's best day under center, as he completed just 22 of his 37 pass attempts for 280 yards and two interceptions. He did make up for it some on the ground, as he accounted for a go-ahead touchdown late in the second quarter that gave Buffalo the lead back for good.

The second half was pretty much all Buffalo, though, especially on the defensive side of the ball with two of the four forced turnovers, and another forced turnover on downs to help give the Bills offense some breathing room to close the game out late.

Bills head coach, Sean McDermott was very proud of his team to go on the road and snatch up another victory that kept a winning streak alive, extending now to five-straight games. He heavily credited his defense for an outstanding performance on Sunday in Indianapolis.

"I thought that the defense and the takeaways was a big time difference in the game, and then also getting momentum back after our turnovers with some key stops and fourth down stops," said McDermott during his postgame press conference. "We were able to make them one dimensional, which was important for us. It was a resilient win overall. Very resilient win."

McDermott was also very impressed on the turnout from Bills fans that made the road trip to Indianapolis.

"A great showing again on the road. We don't take that for granted," McDermott stated. "We travel as well as anyone, and whether it was at the hotel last night or around town, you could just get the feel that there was a lot of red, white and blue in town here. We certainly appreciate that."
