Pittsburgh, Pa. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Bills fell to 1-1 in their second preseason game following a 27-15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium.
LISTEN LIVE TO WGR:
This was a game where Bills head coach Sean McDermott decided to play his starters into the second quarter, but it didn't seem to reach the desired outcome. The Bills offense struggled to get going, as they failed to produce any points on the scoreboard until the fourth quarter.
One major factor in Saturday night's loss was the lack of discipline with 13 penalties called against the Bills, which did not help with Buffalo's efforts to moved the ball. This is something McDermott feels is very important to improve upon moving into the regular season.
"I thought we addressed it last week by pulling guys out of the play when you're out there at training camp practice, but obviously that didn't get the job done," said McDermott following the loss. "We go back to the drawing board, and then guys gotta take ownership and responsibility. It's not like we don't talk about discipline, that's a part of our environment, but obviously we've got more work to do there."
McDermott continued to speak on the team's lack of discipline, and says the team needs to use this game as a learning experience moving forward.
"We've got to make the adjustments we need to make, and then overall, all of us take ownership, take responsibility, and work our tails off this week to get ourselves where we need to be. It's clear we're not where we need to be right now," he said.
With the loss, the Bills move on to Week 3 of the NFL preseason, where they will take on the Bears in Chicago on Saturday, Aug. 26 at 1 p.m. ET. Then the Bills will open their regular season schedule on Monday, Sept. 11 against the New York Jets on "Monday Night Football".
