London (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Bills fall short across the pond in London on Sunday, as they come up on the losing end of a 25-20 decision to the Jacksonville Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Jaguars were able to control a majority of Sunday's contest, as their offense totaled 474 yards on the day, and also controlled the game clock with 38:12 in time of possession compared to Buffalo's 21:48.
Perhaps the most notable story from Buffalo's loss on Sunday ended up being the injuries on the defensive front.
All-Pro linebacker Matt Milano left the game in the first quarter on a cart with, what's feared to be, a fractured leg and a season-ending knee injury. Meanwhile, defensive tackle DaQuan Jones also left the game early with a pectoral injury and did not return.
Following the loss, Bills head coach Sean McDermott did not have too much of a positive update on either Milano or Jones, saying neither injury had much of a good long-term outlook.
Meanwhile, the Buffalo offense got off to a slow start, only managing seven points in the first 55-plus minutes of the game. McDermott felt his team's offensive performance was not good enough, especially when their first four possessions resulted in a punt.
"Too many times shooting ourselves in the foot where we're about to get off the field, or we're starting to get into a rhythm offensively, and then we have a negative play that sets us back," said McDermott following Sunday's loss overseas. "All-in-all, not good enough."
The Buffalo offense couldn't get much going on the ground either, as James Cook finished the day rushing for minus-4 yards on only five carries. It was quarterback Josh Allen leading the way with only 14 yards on the ground. McDermott knows that type of performance is not going to be good enough going forward.
The Bills will now head back to Western New York, where they will next take on the New York Giants on "Sunday Night Football" at Highmark Stadium. McDermott feels his team needs to get back to the fundamentals on both sides of the ball.
"Fundamentally, we've got to get ourselves back," McDermott said. "Just talking about throwing and catching, tackling. Those are the things at the forefront of some of the reasons why we got the result we did today."
