McDermott praises team for second half energy, attitude

Bills head coach Sean McDermott spoke with the media following their 31-19 win over New Orleans on Sunday

Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Bills are 4-0 to start the regular season for the first time since 2020 following a 31-19 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday at Highmark Stadium.

The win was a bit of a milestone for Bills head coach Sean McDermott, who secured his 90th career win as a head coach in the NFL, all of which coming in Buffalo.

It took the Bills a bit longer than expected to put the Saints away on Sunday. McDermott felt his team did not play complimentary football in the first half, but saw better energy in the second half.

"I thought we did a better job in the second half in some situations, but everything starts with gap integrity in the run game, and doing your job and then tackling," said McDermott following the win with the media. "We could have tackled better than we did. We'll go back and look at that as well, and evaluate and try and grow from it."

Bills safety Cole Bishop had a big game, collecting his first interception late in the second quarter with the Saints looking to grab a lead late in the half.

"Huge play in the game, if you really think about it. Big picture due to they're getting the ball after the half," McDermott said. "They're down there inside of [two] minutes to play, maybe less. Potentially, they come out with the ball after half, and now you're talking about, potentially, a 14-point situation there. So big time play."

The Bills struggled staying disciplined, though, committing 11 penalties for 55 yards in the win. McDermott wants to make sure they clean up the mistakes and not beat themselves in that department.
