Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Bills had their sights set on the 2-seed in the AFC with a home victory against the New York Jets on Sunday at Highmark Stadium. After a dominating performance in front of the hometown faithful, the Bills got the job done with a 40-14 win.
Sunday's victory over their division rivals was achieved from an extremely efficient game style on both sides of the ball.
While the offense took a while to really get in their groove, the defense held the Jets without a point until the 6:59 mark of the fourth quarter when the game was already out of reach and the Bills had many of their second- and third-string players in the game.
The Bills defense also held quarterback Aaron Rodgers to just 112 yards passing, and caused two interceptions of the veteran on the day.
It was in the second half where the offense really turned up the heat on the Jets. After leading the Jets by, 12-0, at the halftime, Josh Allen and company piled on 28 more points with touchdowns coming from Amari Cooper, Keon Coleman, James Cook, and Tyrell Shavers.
Not only does Sunday's victory over the Jets solidify Buffalo as the No. 2 seed in the AFC Playoff picture, it also completes a perfect 8-0 record for the Bills in the regular season at home.
Bills head coach Sean McDermott credits his team's work ethic and determination for their success throughout the regular season.
"It just goes back to guys working hard, working together, being unselfish, coming to work every day, focused on getting the job done", said McDermott following Sunday's win. "We know there's some doubters out there, we knew that earlier in the year, and the team just did a great job of coming together, led by Josh. Coaches have done a phenomenal job of trying to just adjust week-to-week."
McDermott also knows his team hasn't gotten off to the best start in their last couple games, and it is something he plans to address ahead of the final regular season matchup and the playoffs.
"I mentioned that, and we didn't play our best football, but we found a way to win. I think that's important as well," McDermott said.
