Parts of Highmark Stadium to go on sale

A number of items like seats, signage and goalposts will soon be available

Orchard Park, N.Y. (WBEN/WGR Sports Radio) - If you've ever wanted a piece of Highmark Stadium, the "Ralph" - whatever you may still call it - your chance is coming. Erie County will be part of a sale of stadium memorabilia that could net the county a financial touchdown.

Erie County Public Works Commissioner Bill Geary says it's great to see an opportunity for members of "Bills Mafia" to buy some stadium memorabilia.

"Everyone's going to be able to, if they want, purchase something from the seats, parts of the goal post, the turf, some of the chairs and tables, just about any of the signage that's in there, the section number, stuff like that, will be available," said Geary in an interview with WBEN.

The price range hasn't been determined yet, and Geary says that won't happen until next week when the county meets with the company hired for the project.

"We were just able to get the resolution from the legislature to allow the Bills to enter in the contract and start marketing this stuff with us," Geary said.

He adds the company that was selected has a proven track record of services like this.

"For example, they had previously done Yankee Stadium. So people look back and see what a seat or a sign in Yankee Stadium was, that's probably going to be comparable," Geary said. "I will say, though, there's a lot of work that goes into this, and the company is taking on all the risks the county doesn't have any risk. We're just going to share 50% of the revenues, which we believe the county with this company's past history, should be north of seven figures."

Geary says the plan is to start the sale next week.

"I know the intention is to make sure we have this going before the next three home games, and obviously timing, I would say, probably within the next week," he said.

And with the holidays right around the corner, the timing of this sale is perfect.

"It's right before the holidays, so it all comes together nicely with what's going on," Geary explained. "And then this goes through the playoffs, and the Bills are very successful and have a longer season. This stuff will start, maybe in March, coming out of the stadium, end of February, beginning of March."
