Bills sign former Lions wide receiver Quintez Cephus

Cephus had been suspended for the entire 2023 season

Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR 550) - While the Buffalo Bills drafted only one wide receiver during the 2024 NFL Draft, they have added another veteran via free agency.

As first posted by the agency that represents him, the Bills have signed former Detroit Lions wide receiver Quintez Cephus, who did not play last season due to a season-long suspension for violating the league’s gambling policy.

Cephus, along with Lions teammate safety C.J. Moore and Washington Commanders defensive end Shaka Toney, were all suspended for the entirety of last season for placing bets on NFL games.

According to USA TODAY, the NFL said that a "league review uncovered no evidence indicating any inside information was used or that any game was compromised in any way."

The 6-foot-1, 208-pound Cephus was a fifth-round draft pick of the Lions in the 2020 NFL Draft. He caught 37 passes for 568 yards and four touchdowns in his three seasons prior to his suspension.

As a junior in his final season at the University of Wisconsin, Cephus collected 59 catches for 901 yards and seven touchdowns, finishing seventh in the Big 10 in all three categories.

The Bills drafted Florida State wideout Keon Coleman with their first selection of the 2024 NFL Draft this past weekend, which was the first pick of the second round at 33rd overall pick. Coleman was the only receiver the team selected.
