Report: Taron Johnson not released, instead traded to Raiders

The teams will also swap late-round picks

Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - After deciding to release nickel cornerback Taron Johnson, even posting a “thank you” to him on social media, the Buffalo Bills are now going to trade the veteran to the Las Vegas Raiders, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport says the Bills will trade Johnson and a seventh-round pick to the Raiders in exchange for a sixth-round pick.

The move does not change the salary cap ramifications for the Bills:

A former fourth-round pick of the Bills in the 2018 NFL Draft, Johnson spent eight years with the Bills and was a key piece in the defense, starting 87 games. Johnson totaled 462 total tackles and seven interceptions, with his most notable play as a member of the Bills being the pick-six in the 2020 AFC Divisional Round against the Baltimore Ravens.

The teams cannot officially announce the trade until the start of the new league year on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET
