The Mid-American Conference announced Wednesday morning that the No. 24 University at Buffalo football team are the official 2020 MAC East division champions and have clinched a spot in the conference title game.

The Bulls could have clinched the division last Saturday with a win at Ohio, but the game with the Bobcats was canceled due to “roster issues with the Ohio football team related to COVID-19 tests and subsequent contact tracing.”

After a few days of uncertainty about their and the division's status, the Bulls can finally exhale a little and solely focus on beating Akron this upcoming Saturday in the regular season finale, despite having already clinched a spot in the conference title game.

The MAC had to wait until Wednesday to declare UB as division champions because of concerns over COVID-19 testing and potentially rescheduling games, but after Tuesday, Dec. 8, the conference came to a decision.

Buffalo will play in the MAC Championship for the second time in the last three seasons and third time in program history. The Bulls were defeated by Northern Illinois in 2018, but they did best Ball State back in 2008 to win the program's lone conference title.

The Bulls' opponent in Detroit has yet to be decided. Western Michigan and Ball State are scheduled to play at 12 p.m. EST on Saturday, with the winner going on to represent the West Division against UB at Ford Field.

Buffalo takes on Akron at 2:30 p.m. EST on Saturday at UB Stadium. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network. You can also listen to the action, with pregame and postgame coverage on the radio home of the UB Bulls – ESPN 1520.
