NCAA President Mark Emmert came out on Thursday and said there will be no NCAA championships this fall because there are not enough schools participating amid the Covid-19 outbreak. His decision applies to everthing other than FBS football.
"(Emmert) showing up after months of what's been going on in the world of college sports and college football," Andy Bunker said. "Saying that about fall championships and also recusing himself, in case anyone was wondering if he had any authority over college football. Just making sure that we know he doesn't so that anything that happens is not blood on his hands; which again, is just phenomenal leadership.
While he has no authority over the Power 5, is Emmert slyly trying to put pressure on the SEC, ACC and Big-12 to cancel their seasons?
"I think what he did yesterday was an attempt, probably not a great one, but an attempt to exact a little influence--because there is a difference between authority and influence--he might not have the authority to make college football decisions. But he does have a position of power in college sports, I think. In saying what he said yesterday I think was an attempt to put pressure on the Big 12, the ACC and the SEC...in saying to them, 'I don't think you should do that."
