Seahawks safety Jamal Adams had quite the introduction during Sunday Night Football. When the 'SNF' broadcast introduced the Seahawks defense during their matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Adams intro drew a lot of ire from NFL fans.
During Adams introduction, instead of saying the college he went to (LSU), or even his high school, Adams opted to call himself ‘the best in the nation.'
Adams was apparently making a reference to a viral video featuring Trabis Ward, a former Tennessee State University football player, who was shot and killed in October 2020.
Adams has received a lot of criticism this season for his poor pass coverage and low interception numbers in what has been a down year in his second year with the Seahawks. One fan pointed out that Adams is ranked 62 out of 85 at his position during his unusual introduction.
Things didn't get better for Adams as late in the 4th quarter, Roethlisberger threw into coverage with a chance to get into field goal range when Adams made a great read, putting him right in front of the ball to make a play, but instead of making the interception, the ball bounced off of his head.
The Steelers ended up kicking the go-ahead field goal two plays later, but luckily for Adams, the Seahawks were able to force the game into overtime, taking away the criticism that would have likely ensued if Seattle lost the game in regulation.
Fans had fun with Adams' intro on social media, mainly criticizing the 26-year-old's play.
Despite Twitter clowning Adams, his performance against the Steelers was a step up from his outing against the Rams which saw him get burned numerous times, most notably on a 63-yard catch by DeSean Jackson.
Adams is third on the Seahawks with 37 total tackles and he has one pass defended with no interceptions. Last season, Adams was an All-Pro caliber safety, recording 83 total tackles with 9.5 sacks – an NFL record for a defensive back – and one forced fumble.
The Seahawks have high expectations for Adams who is the highest-paid safety in the league and is in his second year of a four-year $70 million deal.
