Derek Jeter will be in town Friday night, returning to the Bronx for a special pregame ceremony ahead of the Yankees’ series opener against Tampa Bay. The Yankees are honoring Jeter for his recent Hall-of-Fame induction, earning his plaque in Cooperstown last summer. For Jeter, who spent four years as a Marlins executive and part owner before departing the team this past spring, Friday will mark his first trip to Yankee Stadium since becoming a parent, sharing three young daughters (ages five, three and nine months) with wife Hannah Davis.

While driving with his family, Jeter asked his little ones what they were most looking forward to Friday night. Predictably, responses steered heavily toward snacks, eagerly anticipating their culinary experience at the stadium concession stand, enjoying such delicacies as hot dogs and ice cream, among other gourmet offerings. Jeter’s daughters weren’t, however, as enthusiastic about going on the field, worried they might get hurt (“I don’t want to break my leg like you did”) or be exposed as subpar athletes (“I’m not a good baseball player!”).

The minute-long exchange, which Jeter later posted to his Twitter account, is full of lighthearted moments, none funnier than when his daughter guessed how many fans would be at Yankee Stadium, predicting 160 (an oddly specific number for a toddler to blurt out) with the enthusiasm and confidence of someone who tracks attendance figures for a living. Jeter seems endlessly amused by his kids, embracing his new role as a “girl dad” to three precocious daughters, all of whom, at least at this early stage in their development, care far more about junk food than the sport that made their father a New York legend.
