Joe Burrow's tremendous rookie season is now over after the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback had to be carted off the field on Sunday in Washington with a gruesome knee injury.
In the third quarter of the team's matchup with the Washington Football Team at FedEx Field, Burrow took a scary to his left knee:
Both teams appeared alarmed at the state of one of the sport's best young quarterbacks, as he was ultimately taken back to the locker room on a cart:
The Bengals declared Burrow out of the game fairly quickly with a left knee injury. Ryan Finley replaced Burrow under center for the rest of the game.
Before the game even concluded, the 23-year-old went to Twitter to update his condition, saying:
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Burrow suffered a torn ACL, MCL and other structural damage to his left knee. The recovery time for these types of injuries is estimated to be anywhere between 9-12 months, which would mean Burrow could miss most of, if not all, of next season as well.
After one of the most dominant collegiate seasons ever at LSU, Burrow had been at the forefront of a fun race for Offensive Rookie of the Year with Los Angeles Chargers' quarterback Justin Hebert and Minnesota Vikings' wide receiver Justin Jefferson.
Burrow has tossed 13 touchdowns to just five interceptions in his rookie season, and kept an, otherwise, underwhelming Bengals team in a majority of the games they've played this season.
