During Monday night's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Kyrie Irving had some choice words towards a fan that was heckling the Nets star from the comfort of his courtside seats.
In a video that was captured by the fan via TikTok, Irving reminded the fan that he played a major role in giving Cleveland their first title in any sport in over 50 years. Some argue that Irving is the main reason they won that legendary finals series against the 73-9 Warriors.
"Got y'all a championship and motherf---ers still ungrateful," Irving could be heard saying in the video.
Let's get this out the way. LeBron James coming back home was the main reason the Cavs were in that position in the first place. However, Irving's clutch game-winning shot in Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals propelled Cleveland to their first title in franchise history.
Despite Irving chirping back at the fan, he probably had the last laugh as the Nets lost to the Cavs 114-107 in Irving's fourth game back. Irving did do his part, finishing the night with 27 points on 12-of-23 shooting while also dishing out nine assists and seven rebounds. This was the Nets' first game without Kevin Durant since he sprained his MCL.
Irving is still ineligible to play in home games due to NYC's vaccine mandate which requires players to have taken at least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccine. The Nets initially didn't want Irving to be a part-time player, but the team acquiesced and changed their stance in the past few weeks.
Since his return to the Nets, Irving is averaging 20 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5 assists while shooting 36.8 percent from beyond the 3-point line. The star point guard will be slated to play in Brooklyn's Wednesday night road trip to Washington D.C. to face the Wizards.
