Tom Brady, as we know, is not currently employed by the Miami Dolphins in any capacity.
Former NFL executive Mike Lombardi suspects that will one day change.
The Dolphins have been at the center of some major chatter this offseason, with reports suggesting they attempted to land both Brady and Sean Payton this winter. Brady supposedly was going to get ownership stake (which is a salary cap violation), while he’d get to chase his eighth Super Bowl ring in South Florida with Payton, who retired this offseason.
For a myriad of reasons, that didn’t work out. Payton is still retired, and Brady, though he unretired, looks likely to stay with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers barring a major surprise. But during his “GM Shuffle” podcast, Lombardi, an Audacy NFL Insider, made a prediction about the Brady-Dolphins connection.
“I think Miami is going to be a place – I’ll predict this on April 25, 2022 – Tom Brady will end up being in some way or form running the Miami Dolphins," Lombardi said. "Whether it’s player personnel, whether it’s president, I think he will be involved. Once [Bruce] Beal takes over, I think Brady will be involved in some capacity, what [capacity] I don’t know. He loves competing, just like Pat Riley loves competing, just like all guys that are former players love the chance to compete, plus Brady wants to get in that part of the business.”
Beal is a name a lot of people are going to be watching over the coming years. He, apparently, is tight with Brady, and Beal is next in line to take over the Dolphins once the current owner, 81-year-old Stephen Ross, steps aside.
For now, most everyone seems to be in agreement about the Dolphins-Brady thing in that Miami probably looked into it at some level, but it just didn’t work out. After all, Brady was under contract with the Buccaneers, so they'd have to agree to move him, which probably never was going to happen.
However, the situation cooked up enough smoke around the situation to make Lombardi’s theory beyond plausible that one day Brady will be running things in South Florida in some capacity.
