Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk says that shortstop Kevin Newman is available to manager Derek Shelton after appearing to suffer an injury during Sunday’s game against the Brewers, but Colin Moran remains out with a suspected concussion.
Before Wednesday’s afternoon game against the Chicago White Sox, Tomczyk said that Moran is still experiencing concussion symptoms after a scary collision between Moran and Brewers centerfielder Avisail Garcia at first base.
On Tuesday, Derek Shelton said that Moran was available.
Tomczyk also gave an update on the list of injured pitchers.
Keone Kela, while “making some strides” has yet to pick up a baseball. This comes after Shelton said on The Fan Wednesday that "He's doing alright and obviously he's still active with us and when he's in a situation that we think we can get him in a game, we'll get him in a game."
Joe Musgrove will throw a simulated game at the team’s alternate site in Altoona and Jameson Taillon reaches another milestone, with plans to have him thrown live batting practice at Altoona.
Yacksel Rios has begun throwing again and Kyle Crick’s live batting practice session went well according to Tomczyk.
