Jim Kaat raised some eyebrows earlier this week when he gave Yankees breakout ace Nestor Cortes Jr. the nickname, “Nestor the molestor.”
Of course, that nickname won’t stick, and Kaat was heavily criticized for using the name, but the Yankee lefty took to Twitter on Friday to make it known that he didn’t believe there was any harm intended from Kaat, and there was nothing to forgive.
“Jim Kaat has spent an entire lifetime in this game we love,” Cortes said. “He reached out to me and apologized for his remark last night, but he didn’t need to. We all make mistakes and feel 100 percent there was no malice intended.”
Cortes received some criticism of his own last month when tweets from his high school days resurfaced containing offensive language, mainly ones containing lyrics to rap songs, but Cortes apologized and deactivated his Twitter for two days before returning. Now, he’s using it to make it known that he didn’t take any offense to what Kaat said.
“I plan on lifting [Kaat] up with this tweet and I hope others do too,” Cortes said. “No sweat here Jim!”
