Bulls linebacker Shaun Dolac named AP First-Team All-American

Dolac is the first player in the University at Buffalo's program history to earn AP First-Team All-American honors

Amherst, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - For the first time in program history, the University at Buffalo football team has a player earn honors as an AP First-Team All-American.

As announced by The Associated Press on Monday, UB Bulls linebacker Shaun Dolac earned the prestigious honor as an AP First-Team All-American. It is the second First-Team All-America honor this season, as he was also selected to that team by the Walter Camp Football Foundation this past Thursday.

The 2024 Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year is having a historic season for the Bulls, finishing the regular season as the nation's leading tackler with 159 tackles, while adding 16.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and five interceptions.

This season alone, Dolac was named MAC Defensive Player of the Week a program-record five times.

Dolac was also a finalist for the Burlsworth Trophy, given annually to the best player in college football who started his career as a walk-on.

In addition to AP and Walter Camp honors, Dolac was also named an All-American by CBS, The Athletic, Pro Football Focus, USA TODAY and Sports Illustrated.

Previous Associated Press All-Americans to play at the University at Buffalo were Khalil Mack (2013) and Jaret Patterson (2020), but both were named as Second-Team All-Americans. Gerald LaFountain was also a honorable mention AP All-American in 1965.

The Bulls will close out their 2024 season on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025 in the Bahamas Bowl against Liberty University.
