(Audacy Sports/WGR 550) - The Kansas City Chiefs may now be without their star tight end for Thursday's Week 1 matchup against the Detroit Lions at Arrowhead Stadium.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid announced Tuesday that Travis Kelce hyperextended his knee during practice. Reid did not have much to offer immediately after practice other than it was being "looked at now and we'll see how it goes."
In the couple hours following Tuesday's practice, the Chiefs officially listed Kelce as "limited" on their final injury report. He is officially deemed as questionable to play Thursday night in Kansas City.
According to NFL Network correspondent James Palmer, Kelce has appeared to avoid a long-term injury, as it looks right now this injury will be a 1-2-week recovery period. However, he adds a lot of the timeline going forward will depend on how fast the swelling in his injured knee goes down.
Kelce has not missed a game due to injury (he missed one game due to COVID-19) since 2013.
In addition to Kelce, the Chiefs will also be without star defensive lineman Chris Jones, as he remains away from the team amid a contract dispute.
The defending Super Bowl champions will kick off the 2023 season on Thursday against the Lions at 8:15 p.m. ET.
