New York (WFAN/WGR Sports Radio 550) - Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets managed to find the end zone just once in Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams, as the veteran quarterback came back down to his season norm after a promising performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars a week before.
Rodgers did throw for 256 yards and the lone touchdown, but his fumble on a sack led to the Rams scoring the go-ahead touchdown three plays later, and that was all she wrote.
The loss dropped the Jets to 4-11 on the year, and continued to raise questions regarding the quarterback’s future beyond this season.
"The Jets are mesmerizingly brutal," said Jerry Recco while hosting on WFAN. "There are times where it is clicking... when Aaron Rodgers has time to throw the ball and look over the defense, he can still pick you apart better than anyone I’ve seen... that 99-yard drive was a thing of beauty.
"But at the end of the day, you’re left with nine points... these are the things I thought would not happen with him at quarterback."
While it has looked bad, Jerry would lean towards keeping Rodgers for one more year, unless a younger head coach is brought in to replace Robert Saleh. With the Jets not getting a top draft pick, wouldn’t Rodgers make the most sense instead of signing a different bridge quarterback?
"If you don’t bring him back, which we know would be for one more year anyway - if you’re gonna bring in a bridge quarterback, isn’t that what he is?" Recco said.
The Jets will play their penultimate game of the 2024 season on Sunday when they travel to Western New York to face the Buffalo Bills. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. EST.
