Jets acquire James Robinson in trade with Jaguars

The Jets are sending a conditional sixth-round pick back to Jacksonville, which can become a fifth-round pick

East Rutherford, N.J. (Audacy Sports/WGR 550) - The bad news for the New York Jets is that star rookie running back Breece Hall is out for the season with a torn left ACL.

However, don't expect, what's turned into, a top-notch rushing attack to fall off a cliff, as the Jets have acquired James Robinson in a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Tuesday.

While the terms of the conditional pick were not disclosed, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport says the Jets are sending a conditional sixth-round pick back to Jacksonville, which can become a fifth-round pick.

In his return from an Achilles tear last season, Robinson was very effective as the lead back to begin the season. However, he's been phased out in recent weeks by the Jaguars, as former first-round pick Travis Etienne has begun to emerge as a star.

Robinson was undrafted, but ended up rushing for over 2,100 yards in parts of three seasons for the Jaguars. He's only 24, and will become a restricted free agent this offseason. So it's entirely possible he becomes a mainstay with the Jets. If not, they'll likely get compensation in return for his services.

Head coach Robert Saleh and offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur still also have second-year back Michael Carter at their disposal, as they look to build on a 5-2 start to the 2022 season.
