Jets take Olumuyiwa Fashanu with 11th pick after trading picks with Vikings

Minnesota moved up to select quarterback J.J. McCarthy out of Michigan

Detroit, Mich. (WFAN/WGR 550) - The New York Jets have added more protection for quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

With the 11th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on Thursday, the Jets selected Penn State offensive lineman Olumuyiwa Fashanu, providing insurance for Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses, recently acquired linemen who have their share of injury concerns.

The Jets originally had the No. 10 pick, but traded back with the Minnesota Vikings one pick to No. 11, getting back Picks 129 and 157 overall, while also parting with the 203rd pick.

Offensive line was a big area of concern for the Jets last season, becoming apparent immediately when Rodgers was under pressure in Week 1 before suffering a season-ending Achilles injury just four snaps into the game against the Buffalo Bills.

The Jets were linked to tight end Brock Bowers, but instead elected to prioritize bolstering the protection around their future Hall of Fame quarterback.

As for the Vikings, they moved up to select their hopeful franchise quarterback in J.J. McCarthy out of the University of Michigan.
