Titans select quarterback Cam Ward with No. 1 pick in 2025 NFL Draft

Ward is set to likely take over as the starting quarterback in Tennessee to start the year

Green Bay, Wis. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Tennessee Titans kicked off the 2025 NFL Draft on Thursday night by drafting quarterback Cam Ward from the University of Miami with the first overall pick.

Ward has been widely regarded as the best quarterback prospect available in the 2025 draft class. He becomes the latest signal caller to go first overall in the draft, joining a long list of other quarterbacks including recent picks like Caleb Williams (Chicago Bears), Bryce Young (Carolina Panthers), Trevor Lawrence (Jacksonville Jaguars) and Joe Burrow (Cincinnati Bengals).

In his senior season with the Hurricanes, Ward completed 305 passes out of 454 attempts for a total of 4,313 yards, 39 touchdowns with only seven interceptions.

The last time the Titans sprung for a quarterback in the first round of the NFL Draft was with Marcus Mariota in 2015, who went second overall behind Jameis Winston (Tampa Bay Buccaneers).

It has been 47 years since the Titans organization last picked first overall in the NFL Draft when they were known as the Houston Oilers. That player drafted with the No. 1 pick in the 1978 NFL Draft ended up being Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Earl Campbell.
