'What Matters Most': Roswell Park's Super Bowl ad highlights deep human connections

"It's all about life and love, and the power of coming together"

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN/WGR Sports Radio 550) - Another Super Bowl is coming up this weekend, and it's another chance for Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center to showcase what if offers to the people of Western New York and beyond.

This year's Big Game commercial, titled "What Matters Most", will highlight the deeper human connections that happen at Roswell Park on a regular basis.

"Between patients, their doctors, our staff, between families. This is really all about life and love, and the power of coming together," said Dr. Candace Johnson, president and CEO of Roswell Park.

Johnson admits it's hard for her to be able to watch the commercial without needing a tissue on-hand or close by. She feels this commercial goes deep into how a diagnosis of cancer affects everyone.

"In your family, your friends, it's a time when those things are challenged in all families. So this is really about that hope that we can bring to individuals, and that people do survive this disease, and there's been some amazing progress," Dr. Johnson said with WBEN.

Dr. Johnson feels this commercial is different from some of the ads that Roswell Park has run in the past.

"What we're doing here is, if you look, every single frame is a person, a family, a team member that we know, someone who inspires us to come to work, fight for our patients every day. This purposefully was to portray the moments that define us, and the people that stand by us. And the hope that every cancer patient has in their fight against cancer," she said.

"I hope that it touches the hearts of [people], like it touches the hearts of everyone here at Roswell who have seen it and and put it together."

It is expected for this Roswell Park ad to run sometime before the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show.

The game will be broadcasted on WUTV, FOX 29 in Buffalo on Sunday, with kickoff slated for 6:40 p.m.
