Jason Garrett flipped from one side of the Giants/Cowboys rivalry to the other last year and now Ben McAdoo is poised to do the same. McAdoo, the Giants’ head coach from 2016-17, is reportedly headed to Big D, where the 43-year-old will serve as a consultant for Mike McCarthy, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. McAdoo previously worked as an assistant under McCarthy in Green Bay, coaching the Packers' tight ends from 2006-11 and quarterbacks from 2012-13.

After two years out of the league, McAdoo returned to the sidelines in 2020, joining Doug Marrone’s staff in Jacksonville as the team’s quarterbacks coach. The 1-15 Jags would clean house after the season, firing their entire staff to make way for the new Urban Meyer regime. It’s unclear what McAdoo’s exact responsibilities will be, though his new gig could be similar to the role Matt Patricia occupies in New England, balancing administrative and on-field duties as sort of a coach/front-office hybrid.

McAdoo enjoyed a memorable, albeit brief stint atop the Giants’ chain of command, presiding over the BoatGate drama of 2017 and Eli Manning’s benching, among other controversies. In Dallas, the Cowboys will be looking to rebound from last year’s disappointment, losing seven of their last 11 after Dak Prescott’s ankle injury.
