It wasn't the easiest rookie year for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jalen Reagor, and Year 2 is off to to a tough start as well.
After failing a conditioning test on Tuesday and coming out of it with an injury — listed as "lower body tightness" — it was revealed that the second-year TCU product wasn't in the right place emotionally to begin with. According to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Reagor was dealing with the recent murder of a close childhood friend, which understandably "weighed heavily" on him and was thought to have "affected his readiness and performance" for the start of training camp.
Fellow pass-catcher Dallas Goedert failed the conditioning test as well, says McLane, though it was due to using the wrong technique, turning the wrong way and thus finishing below the required baseline.
Between some health issues and an overall poor passing offense in 2020, Reagor failed to make the type of impact that many fans were hoping for when he broke into the league last season. He finished his debut campaign with 31 receptions on 54 targets, going for 396 yards and a touchdown. The Eagles then went ahead and used another first-round pick on a wide receiver the next year, selecting DeVonta Smith, and looking to give Jalen Hurts a young, exciting supporting cast on the outside.
