Pitt To Open Up Season Against Austin Peay State University

Pitt Panthers football coach Pat Narduzzi said Tuesday he expected to know by Thursday who his team would take on to open up the season, but later that day it was announced Austin Peay State University will come to Heinz Field for the September 12 opener.

Austin Peavy, in Clarksville, TN, replaces Miami of Ohio after the MAC conference postponed fall sports.

The game against Austin Peavy will be the first between the two schools in history.

The Austin Peavy Governors play at the Football Championship Subdivision or FCS level went 11-4 last year going to the NCAA Division 1 Football Championship quarterfinals.

The rest of Pitt’s games will be against ACC opponents.

·         Dec. 12 or 19: ACC Championship Game (Charlotte, N.C.)

Pitt, along with the Pittsburgh Steelers continue to work toward allowing fans in attendance for games at Heinz Field with the governor’s office.

Pitt says an announcement is “anticipated in the near future.”
